Dunkin’ Don’t Ah, morning.
The coffee cart beckons.
Elsewhere, the iconic pink and brown double D’s chant your name.
If you are an urban dweller as I am, you likely feel the somewhat irresistible pull of the corner coffee cart. Glazed donuts whisper sweet nothings from afar. Their cream-filled counterparts are less discreet. Indeed they seem to snicker as I order my standard hot morning tea.
Morning Pastry culture is an American phenomenon and probably one of our least healthy habits. Loading our systems with sugar and fat as a first meal sets up your cravings and eating patterns for the rest of the day. Indulge in a donut-a-day habit and over time your blood can change consistency becoming more like the filling in your favorite Boston Cream than you’d like to admit.
Still, I’m not one to advocate denial. And this site is all about real solutions that anyone can manage. So, imagine my delight when I stumbled upon a previously unheard of treat at the local supermarket. Hear me out now, because I am not a Vegan or a Vegetarian. I don’t like sugar substitutes and having never smoked or indulged in a Coffee habit, I am ruled by my taste buds.
They are called French Twists. Manufactured by Barry’s Bakery, they are crispy pastry like concoctions. Sweet and yummy and just 60 Calories with no dairy or butter. Think I'm kidding? Wrong. Think you won't find them? Wrong again. I’ve found them in Supermarkets and Convenience stores in at least three States.
They are fantastic!! But there is a caveat. The simple act of dunking a Twist into a warm beverage of your choosing converts said Twist into an utterly sinful morsel. Trust me on this! Dunk and Twist in the morning. Dunk and Twist at night..have it your way!
And let out a hearty chortle the next time you pass Dunkin’ Donuts – they’ve got nothin’ on you!
